Why don’t we remember all our dreams?

Posted: 18 Jun 2012 08:53 AM PDT

sleeping manIt happens due to a mechanism of the brain that controls remembering and forgetting and its work during sleep. This is supported by Luigi De Genaro, professor at theUniversity ofRome, and his team, who used an electroencephalogram to monitor the brain activity of students as they slept.

The experiment involved 65 students: 30 who usually wake up during REM sleep (a sleep phase when the eyes are in rapid motion), and 35 who usually wake up during the second stage of sleep. Approximately two thirds of both groups remembered most of their dreams.

Those who woke up during REM sleep and remembered their dreams were more likely to have an oscillation in the brain of EEG type called Theta. The oscillation appears in the regions of the prefrontal cortex and occurs when we try to think. This type of oscillation is exactly the same as the one that help us recall our memory when we are awake.

Those who did not wake up during REM sleep but during the second stage of sleep and could remember their dreams had oscillations of Alpha type in the prefrontal lobe – these oscillations occur when we see or feel something that stimulates us emotionally when we are awake.

So in conclusion De Genaro emphasizes that when we sleep, the brain activates the same parts that we use in awake state. It was detected that when the parts of the brain responsible for emotions were activated, then the students managed to remember their dreams in more detail.

Déjà vu: scientists vs mystics

Posted: 17 Jun 2012 04:39 PM PDT

deja vuThe phrase is French and means “already seen“. The deja vu phenomenon describes an experience in which, for a few seconds or fractions of seconds, we feel that something we are experiencing at the moment has already happened in the past.

Some people experience it every day, others very rarely, but all people have felt deja vu at least once in their life.

Deja vu is a hotly debated issue that preoccupies scientists, psychologists and mystics. As it is expected, opinions and explanations differ.

Scientific point of view

Scientists, being more rational, explain deja vu as a temporary “dysfunction” of the brain, which mixes the past with the present. Put more simply, imagine the brain as a computer. Every day, every hour, every moment, this computer “stores” in the memory everything that happens, just like computer files with dates. Memory contains billions of files, which all are considered "old", since each of them gets “old” in fractions of seconds. Deja vu is a small temporary dysfunction, when the computer, instead of saving a new file, recognizes it as a re-opened old one.

Two opinions of psychologists

The most rational ones explain deja vu as a rapid recall of some forgotten memory which has some common features with what we are experience at the moment. For example, suppose that one day many years ago you went for a walk in the countryside and saw a tree that impressed you much with its large purple flowers. But after many years you no longer remember that incident at all. And now you are going back to the countryside and see the same tree or a similar one. Your mind instantly recalls the forgotten memory, but instead of remembering the old event, you confuse it with the present one. The same can happen if the tree you see resembles a tree that you once saw in the dream but have forgotten.

The second opinion of psychologists is less rationalist and has some unexplainable “loopholes”. Some psychologists do not reject the ability of the subconscious to act prophetic during sleep and to speak through dreams. So, they explain the phenomenon of deja vu as an instant recall of a prophetic dream that had been forgotten.

Mystics reject any scientific view. Perhaps we all have heard an opinion that deja vu is a forgotten memory of our previous incarnations.

Deja vu stories

Certainly, there are “gaps” and all the 3 theories. Here are some examples of real deja vu stories that either prove or disapprove the mentioned theories:

1. Alady once went to a house in a town that had not visited before. At the very moment she stepped foot inside the house, she felt to know in detail the layout of all rooms. The impressive thing is that the lady was right. She knew exactly the position of things in the rooms she had not yet visited, etc.

As you see, this story rejects the scientific point of view. The psychological one can not be completely excluded, although the lady swears that she has never been to this house. The mystical theory is also rejected on the sole ground that the building was not over 30 y.o. and the lady was at least 50 y.o.(the house was built at least 20 years after the birth of the lady).

2. A7 years old boy with his parents visited a medieval castle in a country he had never been to before. And just like the lady from the previous example, at the moment of entering the castle, he felt to know the details around it, although there were several dozens rooms. The boy perfectly knew what was in every room.

The scientific and the psychological theories are rejected again, as the child had never visited that castle before, as well as any other castle… So we are left with the mystical point of view. In this case, only the belief in reincarnation can explain this incident.

3. Ayoung girl is sitting in the company of her friends in a park. While casually talking and laughing, she suddenly declares: “I’ve seen it before, I remember it very well… Soon a boy with a very funny haircut will come…” Indeed, after a few minutes, this boy appears and really has a funny haircut. The girl can not explain it all.

The scientific theory is rejected again, as well as the psychological and the mystical ones… The only one that could explain this incident is the second psychological opinion about prophetic dreams.

Deja vu in little children often confirms the mystical theory, while this phenomenon in adults can often be explained either by psychological or by scientific theory. A portion of teenage and older people experiencing deja vu can support the “prophetic” theory. Age certainly affects the brain's function as well as the emotions. Does it also affect the deja vu phenomenon?

So, as you can see from the above examples, all the theories can be easily confirmed or rejected. So finally what is deja vu? Neither scientists nor mystics can give a definite answer yet…

Do you belong to one of the five indigo generations?

Posted: 16 Jun 2012 05:58 PM PDT

indigo childrenThe following article will answer many questions you have about indigo children and will help you find the “miracle children” in your close circle…

One of the most renowned researchers of the New Age phenomena is Ms. Lori Johnson, who worked on the Indigo generation almost scientifically and divided it into five categories according to the date of birth of children.

Alpha Generation

The first generation, which was called Alpha, includes children born in the period from 1958 to 1968.

Their aura was dark blue and green with purple shades and was under the influence of the metallic beige protecting them from external attacks and excessive early showing of indigo potential.

Since early childhood, the Alpha had a feeling of being different, as if they did not belong to their place, country or parents. The reasons for this difference were always vague and never found a satisfactory explanation.

The period of awakening of the Alpha generation is from 1986 until 1996.

Beta generation

They are people born in the period between 1968 and 1978.

The colors of their aura are blue – green – purple, but no longer the color of the metal shield. The period of their awakening coincides, roughly the period from 1996 to 2006.

A typical feature of both generations, Alpha and Beta, is that they look much younger than they actually are.

Gamma Generation

It is the third generation of children indigo, born from 1978 to 1988.

This is the first generation with the minimum protective shield. It is usually purple with markings of ocher or crystal color.

The period of intellectual awakening of these children coincides with the period between 2006 and 2016.

Delta Generation

These children are born from 1988 to 1998. One of the characteristics of the fourth generation is the pure indigo color of the aura.

This generation is too sensitive and needs plenty of help. These people are overactive and quite extrovert. They like to show to the world who they really are and often do it with great self-confidence.

In their environment they want blue and purple colors, and really enjoy slow music. They avoid crowded places and anything that causes nervousness.

Delta generation has usually very difficult teenage years. Many of these kids think that something is wrong with them, they may mess with drugs or have suicidal tendencies. The best remedy for them is the Nature, and it is good to spend there as much time as possible.

The period of maturation and spiritual awakening of delta generation coincides with the period from 2016 until 2026.

Omega generation

Children born from 1998 to 2008 belong to the so-called Omega indigo generation. Supposedly this is the last "pure" indigo generation.

Children born in the Delta and Omega period, are also called Crystal Children because of a particularly bright, crystal color in their aura.

These children are particularly vulnerable to various dermatology problems, allergies and diseases (especially to those of upper respiratory tract due to high environmental pollution). Also a large proportion of them is characterized as autistic or suffers from the Asperger syndrome. Autism in children is a way of self protection from attack and neurosis of the outside world.

This generation will experience the “Dark Night of Awakeningfrom 2026 until 2036.

The Awakening of Indigo

For each indigo generation the process of awakening begins around the age of 28-29 years and lasts about 7.5 years. The “Dark Night of Awakening” is a period that can be particularly difficult because it is the final return of an indigo person to his mission in this life. This period is full of different problems and various difficult challenges.

In the mature age (37 – 39), begins the recovery and prosperity of mental abilities. Until then, the person had enough time to finally learn to trust his psychic powers without being startled or trying to share his experiences with others.

These internal experiences may include: having a clear insight, direction and possible internal communication with the spiritual world; identification of thoughts, feelings and intentions of others; understanding the parallel levels of reality; a true insight into the nature of time.

What can the third eye see?

Posted: 16 Jun 2012 08:48 AM PDT

third eyeThe third eye is essentially a “blind” pituitary gland (or, to put into simple words, an autonomous “tube” that has neither the beginning nor the end) which is located at the base of our brain and, according to medical science, has no reason to exist. That is to say, it is something that the science has not yet found a role for.

However, from ancient times, the mystics of every country connected it to the intuition and described it as "intuitional vision" or intuitional connection with the outside world. Hence the name.

The third eye is something that we all have. In everyday life the rational mind usually refuses to accept its significance, but there are people who “hear information from within” and prefer it as a criterion for decision making.

Thoughts like “something from the beginning did not go well“, “at first glance seemed” or “listen to your instinct” often come to confuse and 'seduce' our minds. Some of us get intimidated by the “voice of the soul”, some turn back and follow the path of reason. The question is: can we trust our lives in what we call “instinct”, “intuition“, “sixth sense, etc.? Can we use the third eye to get information that could be used for decision making?

Using the third eye at will and not randomly needs practice. It is not difficult, but definitely needs your concentration, your insistence and-above all-your respect. Also, you must first have learned to relax, to envision, to meditate and to feel your body.

This is a video on how to activate the “eye of the soul”.

6 keys to a happy life

Posted: 14 Jun 2012 06:01 AM PDT

happy lifeWhat is happiness? Why do some people seem to be permanently happy, while others struggle to get any satisfaction? This article provides some simple but effective ideas that can help you develop inner happiness and build a wonderful life.

1. Rely on your heart

If we live only by reason, we consider each situation with our critical, judicious mind, and as a consequence, we find an infinite number of mistakes in the world and other people. While we constantly criticize others, we can find no peace or happiness. However, if we rely more on the heart, we become more tolerant and receptive to others.

Children easily find happiness in simple everyday things, because they rely more on their heart. Sometimes we need to move away from our critical mind and take a simple children’s outlook on life.

2. Control your thoughts

When we feel helpless victims of the flow of our negative thoughts, how can we hope for happiness? For our happiness, we should develop a positive way of thinking by replacing our negative thoughts with positive, inspirational ones.

Staying away from negative thoughts is a matter of practice. Exercises in meditation and concentration can help us develop control of both our body and mind. But remember that often the most effective and simple way to get rid of negative thoughts is to focus on something positive. Be very careful with what floats your mind.

3. Simplicity

The path to happiness is not difficult. Happiness does not depend on the accumulation of a certain amount of wealth or on the achievement of certain standards prescribed by society.

Happiness exists in the moment, not in an imaginary perfect future. We need to train the art of being happy with our current position. Our present life may be far from ideal, but if we can move away from negative aspects of our life and value the dignity of simplicity, we can achieve happiness much easier.

4. Gratitude

If we do not express our gratitude to other people and life in general, we form a self-loving outlook on life. We are too focused on our own thoughts and ego. When we express our gratitude for little things in life, our consciousness and self-awareness are expanding.

Gratitude has a huge positive effect. If it is upright and sincere, it changes dramatically our outlook on life. Gratitude allows you to express a sincere positive attitude towards life.

5. Activeness

Activeness does not mean filling our lives with all possible activities. This can only lead to the development of self-esteem and stress because of making great efforts to carry out several things at once. If we show normal activity, we begin to feel a purpose in life. This intention and satisfaction from our actions can help develop a sense of inner satisfaction.

6. Physical exercise

If you start performing regular exercise, you will notice many beneficial results. First, when we exercise our body, we become less prone to illnesses. Thanks to the development of our physical strength, we obtain the ever-increasing self-esteem, because thus we actively develop ourselves.

Maintaining good physical shape has a positive impact on our mental attitude. Exercise releases the brain from a variety of useless thoughts. Remember that maintaining physical fitness does not mean self-torture, you can always find a kind of exercise that will be fun and will provide a good pastime.

How to find your purpose of life

Posted: 13 Jun 2012 06:36 PM PDT

happinessSooner or later we all think about why we came into this world. Consciously or unconsciously people chose their own meaning of life and seek to comprehend it.

In every age the purpose of human life is expressed in its own way. If in childhood we, cherished by parents, go on about the same way (kindergarten, school, college), then when we grow up, this issue begins to worry us more and more, often causing depression and unexpected turns in life.

We usually think about our purpose of life with most common stereotypes imposed from outside. We look at others and copy their aspirations, without even realizing it, and spend our precious time on achieving goals that are alien to us.

Among these alien goals may be: career growth; graduation in non-desired but prestigious specialty; desire to have expensive things; need to have family and children.

The desire to be happy is the most common dream. However, happiness is not a permanent condition. It is not noticeable, when it turns into an everyday routine. Only a permanent presence of contrasting emotions can provide the feeling of happiness. So do not try to avoid negative emotions. Remember that they are not permanent and soon will turn into the positive ones.

In fact, everyone understands the word “happiness” in his own way, sets his own goals, reaches them, and set the new ones. However, often even the achievement of a sincerely desired goal does not bring joy. At times, person, being surprised and disappointed about himself, stops moving forward. Such events can change the whole future life.

The point is to focus on your feelings, and listen to your heart and emotions. Color of emotions is the key to the satisfaction of the moments of happiness, and can tell you which direction to take.

In the course of life, having reached a number of goals, person realizes that not the material prosperity but the spiritual enrichment of himself and his surrounding world is his destination. This can be expressed in the variety of ways – through the care of one's children, through the help to other people, through self-development and self-realization in one's labor of love.

Therefore, observing in yourself state of happiness, peace of mind, catching a wide smile on your face, linger in the moment, remember what events caused these feelings and continue moving in this direction.

Sincere desires, backed up by spiritual aspirations and matched with the same sincere positive emotions, 'produce' creative energy which can do truly incredible things.

It is not necessary to be outstanding and change the course of history. The fact that each of us is assigned to his special role and his place in this life is a manifestation of the unique purpose of each person.

The point is to find what really motivates you and provide 'the engine with fuel' all the time. Think, for whom and what you wake up every morning, get up and start your new day.

Every person deserves happiness and perceives it in his own way. Search for meaning can take a long time, even the whole life. Maybe this is the meaning of life? Everyone has his own one, and it is certainly worthy of searching. The choice is in our hands: to follow the flow or do all this way consciously and with pleasure, enjoying happy and joyful moments.

Top 10 secrets of body language

Posted: 13 Jun 2012 06:31 AM PDT

body languageAlthough you may know much in your personal or professional area, your knowledge will be useless if you do not know how to share it with others. And it’s not just about the words you use. This refers also to non-verbal communication or body language that shows up in any communication situation.

Here are ten tips on how to use your body language to communicate your ideas more successfully.

Eye Contact

In any culture, eye contact is one of the most important aspects when dealing with other people, especially those whom we see for the first time. Maintaining good eye contact shows respect and interest.
An eye contact which lasts longer than usual will make your interlocutor feel that you press him. The one that is shorter than usual may be regarded as loss of interest.

Posture

Take a good posture and you will automatically feel better. Next time you notice that you feel depressed, look at how you are sitting or standing. Most likely, you slouch and your shoulders and head are down. This compresses the breast and prevents proper breathing, which makes you feel nervous and restless.

Good posture should be easy and relaxing for the spine, there should be no tension in the muscles. Imagine a thin trickle slowly running up your spine.

Head

The position of the head plays an important role. When you want to feel confident, keep your head straight, both horizontally and vertically. Thus you will look authoritative in front of others so that they take you and what you say seriously.

When you want to look friendly, just tilt the head in any direction. You can change the inclination of the head during the conversation, as well as nod to show that you’re interested.

Hands

Hand movements allow other people to understand how open and receptive we are. Keep your arms relaxed at the sides of the body or behind your back. It will say that you are not afraid of contact and are open to any information.

In general, the more open you are, the more you tend to use your hands when speaking. If you want to express your positive attitude to a person, do not cross your arms, because it shows disapproval and negative position.

Legs

Legs are the farthest from the brain and, therefore, are the most difficult to control. They tend to move much more when we are nervous or confused. In most situations, especially in interviews and workshops, it is better to keep them as motionless as possible.

Also, pay attention to how you cross your legs. Do you cross your legs at your knees, ankles, or put one leg on the other? It’s more a matter of comfort than anything else. Just be aware that the last mentioned position is generally perceived as the most defensive.

Orientation of the body

The orientation of the body gives an idea of our views and feelings about others. We naturally turn to people we find attractive, friendly and interesting, and turn away from those we don't like. The position face to face can be adversarial in nature, just like a chess game. In situations that might cause tension or stress, it is better to approach gently from the side, rather than directly.

Palms

Palm gestures are so numerous that it is very difficult to give even a brief reference. Palms upward and outward are regarded as openness and friendliness. Gestures pointing down usually regarded as dominant and possibly aggressive. Position of the palm is especially important when it comes to shaking hands. Where appropriate, you have to offer a handshake when meeting new people. Palms should be vertical, which implies a sense of equality among people.

Distance

Distance is very important if you want to make the right impression. When you are standing or sitting too close to the interlocutor, it can be regarded as insolence and impudence, if too far – you may seem arrogant or stiff. Next time you will be in any group of people watch on what distance they all are from each other. If you come close to someone, and he walks away, it is likely that you have violated his comfort zone.

Mouth

Movement of the mouth can express any feelings that we experience. We compress or bite the lips when contemplating, or hiding laugh or anger that we do not want to show. However, these movements are noticed by other people, and although they may not know what you are thinking about, they may feel that you are not happy. Also, there are different types of smiles, and each of them conveys the appropriate sense. A sincere smile bares your teeth, lifts cheeks and wrinkles the corners of your eyes.

Ears

Your ears are also important, although in most cases, people can not really move them. However, since you have two ears and only one mouth, try to use them in the same ratio. If you listen twice as much as you speak then you are likely to seem a good conversationalist who knows how to have a balanced conversation.

Practice these ten simple ways to improve your communication skills, and you’ll reap the rewards in your personal and professional life. People will find you a lovely, open and professional person.

Scientists create 3D map of the brain

Posted: 12 Jun 2012 09:47 AM PDT

3d-map-of-brainScientists at Harvard University managed to explore the interior of the brain using new, hi-tech imaging methods.

With the help of MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), which provides three-dimensional color images, experts now can have the first real image of one hundred billion brain cells, as well as of their modus operandi, which can result in treatment of many brain disorders.

Over the years we have been studying the brain with the help of conventional imaging methods which could not provide us real image of it. We could see only a shadow of its surface“, says professor Jan Wedeen referring to the new method of using three different colors to mark neurons before identifying the connections between them – a process that would take hundreds of thousands of years to complete using traditional methods.

The human brain is the most complex object in the universe. It keeps our memories and fears, and by processing information from the environment allows us to see, hear and feel. There is a whole range of disorders attributed to incorrect connections between neurons, but we do not have the means to detect them“, says Jeff Lichtman, who developed the new method which in the future will lead to the creation of three-dimensional map of the brain.

5 arguments by NASA that the world won’t end in December 2012

Posted: 12 Jun 2012 05:19 AM PDT

end of the worldGood news: the world will not end on December 21, 2012 despite all the prophecies. Here are 5 reasons why the Earth will continue to rotate, according to NASA scientists:

1. Was the Mayan calendar studied by NASA scientists in detail?

"As the calendar that you have on the wall of your room does not cease to exist after December 31, the Mayan calendar does not cease to exist on December 21, 2012. This date is the end of the Mayan long period of time count, and as your calendar starts the count on 1 January again, the Mayan calendar starts another long period."

2. What are the phenomena that could affect the Earth?

“There are no planetary alignments in the coming decades. Even if the planets could be aligned, the impact on Earth would be insignificant. Each December, we have an alignment of Earth and Sun with approximate center of our galaxy, but this is an annual event that does not have consequences.”

3. Will Planet X or Eris approach the Earth threatening us with disaster?

"If Planet X really existed and was to approach the Earth in 2012, astronomers would have found some evidence at least a decade ago and by now the risk would be visible even to the naked eye. Eris is real, but it is a dwarf planet similar to Pluto that will remain in the outer solar system. The closest distance it can approach the Earth is about 4 billion miles."

4. Is the Earth likely to get struck by a meteorite in 2012?

"The Earth has always 'attracted' comets and asteroids. The last big asteroid crash took place 65 million years ago and caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. Today NASA astronomers conduct a research called Spaceguard to find any large asteroid near the Earth long before colliding. We have already seen that there is no threat of large asteroids. All this work is openly published on the website of the new NASA program, where you can check it yourself."

5. Is there danger from giant solar storms in 2012?

Solar activity has a regular cycle. During its peaks, which occur approximately every 11 years, the worst thing solar flares can do is to interfere the work of satellite communications. But there is no specific threat expected in 2012. The next solar activity peak will take place in 2012-2014 and will have no consequences as well as all the previous ones."

The NASA says: “Where is the scientific proof? All these fictional claims made in Internet articles, books, and movies can't alter the simple fact. There is no convincing evidence for any unusual events to take place in December 2012.”

Does telephone telepathy exist?

Posted: 10 Jun 2012 07:54 AM PDT

telephone telepathyHas it ever happened to you to hear the phone ringing and know who is calling without looking at the number on the screen?

Rupert Sheldrake is a British biologist known for his “heretical” scientific views and his experimental research on telepathy. It is an interview where he speaks of “telephone telepathy” – the ability of some people to understand who is calling them before hearing his voice or see the number on screen. Are you one of them?

Experiment on telephone telepathy.

Rupert Sheldrake: “At times I heard many people describe the same experience: they call to a friend or acquaintance, and as soon as he hears their voice he says: "Weird, I have just thought about you, the phone rang and it was you!" According to polls, more than 80% of people have similar experiences.

Most scientists consider it just a “coincidence”. But how can we know if this is coincidence and not telepathy without studying it? So I decided to make a special experiment using the following model:

We ask volunteers, participating in the experiment and claiming to have “telephone telepathy”, to name 4 people, whom they consider to communicate telepathically with. Usually these are friends, or family members. So we communicate with them and inform them that within the next hour we will ask them to call their friend – the volunteer.

At the same time we close the volunteer in a room where there is a phone without caller ID. We make sure that the volunteer doesn't have a mobile phone or any other electronic device. We explain him that within the next half hour the phone will ring six times.

At the other end of the line is one of the 4 friends. The series of calls is unpredictable. What we ask is to just hear the phone ringing and to tell us is calling. Then we study the answers, and after excluding the cases of random probability, we make our conclusions.

There is no chance for volunteers to cheat. People who call are very far. There is no chance to know the order of calls as they are randomly selected by lottery. There is no way to detect who is calling using the known human senses.

The only way the volunteers could know who is calling is telepathy. Since the results surpass the law of probabilities, then the person is telepathic. The correct predictions surpass the luck factor, so the results are positive and have statistical significance.

I have conducted over 1000 experiments on telephone telepathy. We have examined more than 60 people, and most of them showed positive results.

I do not make claims about the “inexplicable” phenomena. I study them. Many people say they experience telepathy. Many believe that their dogs are telepathic. So what is the proper scientific attitude?

Some of my colleagues pretend that it is not happening. But I allow myself to believe that the proper scientific attitude is the study and research.”

13 most common superstitions and their origins

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 04:44 PM PDT

superstitionWe are daily surrounded by superstition. Don't pass under a ladder, don't step on broken glass… Where do these superstitions come from and why do we follow them?

British writer Harry Oliver in his book titled “Black Cats & Four-Leaf Clovers” explores the roots of superstitions around the world.

1. Black Cat

Black cats are interwoven with magic, that's why some people think they bring bad luck. However, there are two variations on this superstition. If a cat passes in front of you it is bad luck, but if it comes towards you, then it is a good sign.

2. Marriage and kissing a mustachioed man

There are many superstitions associated with marriage. One is that if a woman kisses a brunette man during a wedding, then she will get a marriage proposal soon. But if a woman kisses a mustachioed man and a stray hair is left on her lips, then she is likely to never marry.

3. Lighting 3 cigarettes with the same match

This superstition comes from military circles and dates back to the World War I. “If three soldiers smoked together, snipers could easily find them. If they used the same match to light their cigarettes, the shooters would notice that the match was still burning after the first lighting and had enough time to load their weapons, target and shoot the unlucky third smoker“, says Oliver.

4. Four-leaf clover

Because of the rarity of four-leaf clovers, if someone finds one, it is considered very lucky. According to Oliver, this rare plant represents everything one can desire: love, health wealth and fame.

5. Carrots for good eyesight

Although some studies have shown that carrots contain vitamin A, which is good for the eyes, the vegetable itself can not guarantee perfect vision. Oliver argues that it is a myth invented by parents in order to get their kids to eat vegetables. “British pilots ate enormous quantities of carrots to see from a great height in the dark. The rumor was spread to mislead the world on the invention of radar,” adds Oliver.

6. Wearing pants inside out

If you have a bad day, you only need to put your pants inside out. Oliver is not sure about the origin of this superstition, but maybe it could originate from a wild student residence, as a kind of “march of shame”. :)

7. Keep the oven full

This is an old Jewish superstition. If an oven is left empty, the family will go hungry in the future. To avoid a famine, it is enough to leave in the oven a piece of parchment paper or a pan. "The superstition is associated with ancient rituals, during which the food was left for gods of the household in order to protect the family".

8. Infant admiration

If you are in China and see a beautiful newborn baby don't express your admiration. It is long considered bad luck because it is believed to attract the attention of ghosts and demons. Thus, it is habitual to say bad words about a baby to keep evil away.

9. Chewing gum at night

Even if you have bad breath, chewing gum after dinner in Turkey is a bad sign. Turks believe that if you chew gum at night, “you chew the flesh of the dead‘.

10. Open an umbrella indoors

This superstition has religious origins. Crossing your fingers is a kind of sacred protection because two fingers form a kind of cross.
